31DC2017 - Day 21: Inspired by a color

Yayy, these were so fun to make! They took me way longer than I will admit, but that's also the reason why this post is up so late. I would have put more effort in if I had had more time, but oh well. Oh, and also, I used a new topcoat today and it totally smudged my index finger (and I'm a bit bitter about it tbh).

If you couldn't tell, I chose to be inspired by Fairy Dust by China Glaze, which is a beautiful micro-microglitter topper. The fairy was a bit hard to paint, especially when it came to the face, but I'm fairly happy with her. The glare kind of ruined the pic a bit, but I included two additional pics so you can get a better picture of what the finished product looks like.

I am officially calling her the "autumn fairy", here to bring us rain and plenty of warm beverages. The leaves on the trees are so envious of her wings, so they try their best to become as vibrant as them. Her dress is made of a naturally sparkling fabric, that makes the air smell like cinnamon when she flies past you. (I don't know, I like making up stories :P )

In all honesty, I painted the dess with Orly's Space Cadet, which is stunning! The veins on the wings actually smell like cinnamon!

Colors used:
- essence - my dear reindeer (grey-purple base)
- essie - spin the bottle (nude)
- Catrice - Sweet Macaron Sin (slightly darker pinkish nude)
- essence - do you speak love? (dark red)
- essence - from me to you (red-ish terracotta)
- Catrice - Chilly Orange (cool-toned orange)
- China Glaze - Happy Go Lucky (yellow)
- Revlon - Autumn Spice (sparkly dark brown, smells like spices)
- Orly - Space Cadet (brown-ish green multichrome glassfleck)
- China Glaze - Fairy Dust (microglitter topper)
- black, white

kawaii chocolate easter eggs ♥ | Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everybody! These were a lot of fun to paint, though it took me some time to warm up to the finished product.

I started out with two thin coats of a lovely chocolate brown, then added some of the texture and shading in with similar shades.

I then painted the foil pieces on with some of China Glaze's linear holographic polishes. I probably should have swapped this with the next step, but luckily everything worked out in the end anyway.

Lastly, I added the cute faces and went in again to add some more shading to the foil - as well as adding a slightly lighter shade around the eyes and mouths. I probably could have done with a bit more shading, but I think they look cute regardless!

Colors used:
  • China Glaze - Mahogany Magic (chocolate brown)
  • Revlon - Chocolate Truffle (from the Parfumerie line - very dark brown)
  • OPI - A-Piers To Be Tan (caramel-to-chocolate)
  • China Glaze - Sci-Fly By (light blue linear holo)
  • China Glaze - GR8 (linear gold holo)
  • China Glaze - L8R G8R (light green linear holo)
  • China Glaze - Astro-Hot (pink linear holo)
  • essence - take a break (off-white cream - used for the filling(middle finger))
  • China Glaze - Rose Among Thorns (hot pink to red - used for cheeks and tongue)

Hearts Don't Break Around Here | Ed Sheeran inspired (again!)

"Daisies, daisies, perched upon your forehead..."

I'm back again with another design inspired by Divide! This time, it's based on Hearts Don't Break Around Here, which might just be my favorite song off the album (at least right now).

As soon as I heard the lyrics above, I had a pretty clear idea of a design - which luckily worked out really well! I'm so happy with these!

I used waaaay too many colors painting the girl to list them all here, let me just say that. I mixed a lot of colors to create transition shades and stuff like that. It was a lot of fun though!

The base is China Glaze - It's My Turn. Stunning!
The lettering (and part of the girl's hair) was done with Revlon - Chocolate Truffle (the Parfumerie version - so my nails smelled like chocolate in the beginning!)
Flowers done with white and China Glaze - Happy Go Lucky

Tribute to David Bowie - Rest In Peace, David.

The news of David Bowie's sudden passing has upset and surprised many people yesterday, including me. His music was an integral part of my childhood and there is no doubt that he was an astonishing musician.

I decided to make a design as a kind of tribute to him. Sure, it's an unusual choice of remembering, but nail art has always been and will always be my form of self-expression.

The portrait on my ringfinger is based on this picture.

Colors used:
black, white
LOOK - street (medium grey) [destashed]

Merry Christmas! - Red Santa manicure

Merry Christmas everyone! I know, it's only Christmas Eve Eve, but I won't be home until present time and I figured I'd rather put it up too early than too late.

I didn't get to do a lot of festive manis this year, mostly because uni is super duper stressful at the moment. Now that I'm on winter break, I'll hopefully get to invest more time in this blog.

If you couldn't tell, Santa is winking, he's not missing an eye or anything. It looks weird if you don't know, so I wanted to point that out.
The red polish did end up bleeding through the white, but that is my top coat's fault, since I used a different one for this mani.

Colors used:
essie - forever yummy (red)
essie - spin the bottle (nude)
OPI - Jade Is The New Black (green)
essence - winter wonderland (pastel blue)
white
